About Us

The General Tyre and Rubber Company of Pakistan Limited came into existence in 1963, at Landhi Karachi and commenced its production in July 1964.

The Company was then established by General Tire International Corporation (GTIC) of USA, with a total capacity of only 120,000 tyres per annum.

In 1977, GTIC sold 90% of their shares to the present owner M/s Bibojee Services Ltd. and retained 10% of the ownership. In 1985, the Company completed a major expansion, which took the capacity to 600,000 tyres annually.

In 1987, Continental AG, Germany’s number one tyre manufacturer purchased GTIC and became the 10% owner. It provides Technical Assistance to the company under a program, which includes training of our people, formulations, recipe, and selection of equipment and acquiring of raw materials from approved suppliers. The company under this agreement with Continental is bound to follow all rules and regulations provided by Continental including the given quality standards.

Since the takeover of GTIC by Continental, they own the brand name GENERAL which currently carries the highest top of the mind position in the market and has a very high recall. Now with over five decades of experience in the art of making tyres, the brand name is synonymous with quality and is considered a heritage brand.

The dynamics of the market is changing and the middle class is entering the car market. They are looking for a different dynamic when it comes to purchasing the tyres. The company as a strategic move to get a major share of this new and growing market and has decided to modernize the outlook of the brand name from General Tyre to “GTR Tyre” as a parallel brand to capture the imagination of this new class of enthusiast motorists mainly youth which will find the name classy, easy to use and a certain dynamism about it. A modern name with a modern look.

Being a Public Listed Company, the current main sponsors of the Company are: (i) Bibojee Services (Private) Ltd. and (ii) Pak Kuwait Investment Company (PKIC) (iii) National Investment Trust (NIT) while the remaining shares are held by the general public.

The current capacity of the Company stands at 2.4 million for automotive tyres per annum. While the motorcycle plant capacity is 1.6 million tyres per annum. The company produces tyre sizes and patterns that cover almost 75% of the sizes in demand in Pakistan.

It is the first & largest automotive tyre manufacturer in the country producing steel belted tubeless radial tyres for cars and light commercial vehicles. While bias or cross ply tyres for some light trucks, trucks/buses, tractors, rickshaw and motorcycle. The production of some OTR tyres are also about to be begun.

The Company caters four different markets. These are:

  • The Original Equipment Manufacturers (vehicle assemblers)
  • The Replacement or the After market
  • Government Departments/Institutions
  • The Export Market

GTR sells its tyres in replacement market through more than 160 nationwide authorized dealers/distributors most of whom have been working with GTR for more than three generations setting a milestone on customer loyalty and satisfaction.

It is the largest tyre supplier to all OEMs meeting almost 80% of their requirement. Tyres are tested in Japan & Germany before being supplied to them. It has been exporting tyres to Afghanistan, Yemen, Botswana, Syria, Nepal & Bangladesh. It has also been engaged in manufacturing & exporting tyres (FAST) for Formula III racing car to UK, Italy & Sweden from 1988-1998.

It has Head Office / main warehouse in Karachi while branch offices / warehouses are located in four major cities of Pakistan and intends to add another new office and warehouse soon. Company gives comprehensive warranty on its manufactured products.

The General Tyre & Rubber Company of Pakistan Ltd recognizes Occupational Health, Safety and Environment as one of its guiding principles and a key component of our corporate social responsibility.

We are committed to protect environment specifically prevention of pollution and ensure a safe and healthy working environment with consultation and participation of our stake holders by minimizing HSE impacts and risk levels as a result of business activities. We are committed to comply with all applicable Occupational HSE legislations and regulations. We ensure required HSE standards and procedures are established and implemented. We train and motivate all our employees to empower them to play an active role in company’s pledge to its HSE policy.

We set demanding targets and measure progress to ensure continual improvement in HSE performance. We follow the approach of Reduce-Reuse-Recycle for resource conservation.

Code of Conduct

PURPOSE:

The General Tyre and Rubber Company of Pakistan Limited (the “Company”) is committed to conduct its affairs ethically and lawfully. This Code of Conduct establishes policies and procedures that are intended to guide employees, officers, and directors in the performance of their duties and responsibilities and ensure compliance with the Company’s commitment to ethical and lawful conduct. These policies and procedures shall apply to all employees and officers (referred to collectively hereafter as “employees”) and directors of GTR.

1. OBEYING THE LAW:

The Company takes responsibility to comply with laws and regulations very seriously and each of us is expected to comply with applicable legal requirements and prohibitions.

2. WORK ENVIRONMENT:

The Company will maintain a safe work place which is free from discrimination and harassment based on race, religion, sex, age, disability or any other impermissible factor.

3. CONSUMERS SATISFACTION:

The Company is committed to produce products that are safe and effective. In developing and manufacturing product, the Company has established and will comply with standards that meet or exceed regulations promulgated by the laws. In manufacturing its products, the Company will comply with all applicable laws and regulations, including those relating to the environment and occupational health and safety.

4. COMPETITION:

The Company will compete for all business opportunities vigorously, fairly, ethically and legally. The Company will comply with all laws, regulating competition and will not discuss pricing, cost, production plans, business strategies, or any other proprietary or confidential information with its competitors.

5. BUSINESS PARTNER:

The Company will represent its products and services accurately and will comply with applicable regulatory and legal requirements governing the marketing and sale of its products and services to become a business partner.

6. RECORDING AND REPORTING INFORMATION:

In recognition of the fact that accurate information is essential to the Company’s ability to satisfy legal and regulatory obligations, all employees and directors will record and report all information accurately and honestly. No employee or director will sign or submit, or permit others to sign or submit on behalf of the Company, any document or statement that he or she knows or has reason to believe is false.

7. PAYMENTS:

The Company and its employees and directors will not make any improper payments to government or non-government officials, employees, customers, persons, or entities, nor will the Company or its employees and directors request or accept any improper payment from suppliers, customers, or anyone seeking to do business with the Company.

8. FAIR DEALING:

Each employee and director will deal fairly with the Company’s customers, suppliers, competitors, independent auditors and other employees and will not take unfair advantage of anyone through manipulation, concealment, abuse of privileged information, misrepresentation of material facts, or any other unfair dealing or practice.

9. SHAREHOLDER:

The Company provides all applicable facilities to Shareholders through Registrar and distribution of Dividend Warrants in time, as and when approved.

10. STANDARD OF CONDUCT:

No employee or director will use, for his or her own personal gain, or disclose to any third party, any confidential or proprietary information that he or she obtained as a result of his or her employment with or relationship to the Company. Confidential or proprietary information includes all non-public information that might be of use to competitors or harmful to the Company and its customers if disclosed. No employee or director will buy, sell, or deal in the Company’s stock based on non-public information.

11. PUBLIC ACTIVITIES:

The Company will make no corporate political contributions to parties or individuals, even where such contributions may be legal, but encourages employees and directors to participate in community affairs and to exercise citizenship responsibilities.

12. CORPORATE OPPORTUNITIES:

Employees and directors owe a duty to the Company to advance its legitimate interests when the opportunity to do so arises. Employees and directors are prohibited from (a) taking for themselves personally opportunities that are discovered through the use of corporate property, information, or position, (b) using corporate property, information, or position for personal gain, or (c) competing with the Company.

13. CONFLICTS OF INTEREST:

No employee or director will engage in any activity or have any outside interest that might deprive the Company of his or her loyalty, interfere with the satisfactory performance of his or her duties, and make it difficult to perform his or her duties for the Company objectively and effectively, or be harmful or detrimental to the Company. Employees and directors must immediately disclose in writing any actual or potential conflict of interest to the Secretary of the Company, for resolution. A conflict of interest occurs when a person’s private interest interferes or appears to interfere in any way with the Company’s interests and may also arise when an employee or director or a member of his or her family receives improper personal benefits as a result of his or her position with the Company.

14. PROTECTION AND PROPER USE OF COMPANY ASSETS:

Theft, carelessness, and waste have a direct impact on the Company’s profitability. All employees and directors will take appropriate actions to protect the Company’s assets and ensure their efficient use for legitimate business purposes.

15. DISCLOSURE OF INTEREST:

All directors and executives notify to the Company Secretary in writing whether they or their spouses have sold, bought or taken any position, whether directly or indirectly, in the shares of the company. In case such persons or their spouses have sold, bought or taken any position in the shares, they shall deliver a written record of the price, number of shares, form of shares (i.e. physical or within CDC) and nature of transaction within four days of affecting the transaction to the Secretary.

GENERAL TYRE (GTR) SPONSORED WORLD TOURISM DAY

Recently, General Tyre (GTR) sponsored World Tourism Day which was celebrated on Sept. 27, 2017 at one of the world highest peak Khunjerab Pass which is 15397 FT above sea level. The festival was arranged by Cross Route Club (CRC). Around 200 bikers took part in this event. They journey embarked upon from Lahore and it took bikers three days to reach at roof of the world. One of the salient feature was that the national anthem of Pakistan was also sung unanimously by the participants. The motorcyclists were provided specially developed theme warm jackets carrying GTR & CRC logo on them.

TEAM GTR VISIT TO SOUTH AFRICA

General Tyre being a largest tyre manufacturer of Pakistan has recently arranged tour program for the top dealers all over Pakistan based on their top performances during July- Dec 2014. As always GTR takes the initiative & others follow us, this time too, the destination selected was Cape Town – South Africa & the dealers informed accordingly. The tour was schedule for 4 nights & 5 days and we picked up one of the best hotel “Southern Sun Waterfront” for their accomodation. Besides this, itinerary of the tour was excellent and accordingly the arrangenment was superb. They visited different places like Ostritch farm, Cape of Good Hope, Signal Hill, A scenic city tour passing the Houses of Parliament, City Hall, Castle and Slave Lodge, The Bo-Kaap, traditional Malay Quarter, Green Market Square,District Six and Blouberg Beach and many more. Though the weather was cold and cloudy and some times rainy too. The min temperature was 10 & max 20 celcius but it did not stop the enjoyment and everyone out there enjoyed the trip. . .

MOTORCYCLE TYRE DISTRIBUTORS VISIT TO GTR PLANT

GTR arranged factory visit for its motorcycle tyre distributors from all over Pakistan on April 25, 2014. The idea of inviting them was to build confidence in our products. The took a round of GTRs plant facilities and observed its production process till finish product. They were also given a shield as a token of participation.

FACTORY VISIT BY HYDERABAD MOTORCYCLE RETAILERS / VULCANIZERS

On February 21, some selected retailers & vulcanizers / rim aligners of motorcycle tyres from Hyderabad Zone visited GTR factory. The main thrust of their visit was to show them the process of tyres manufacturing specially motorcycle tyre plant. So that when they go back to their places they have a full confidence in General brand. During their visit, they were given a brief about the products being manufactured, by the senior staff of GTR. They took the round of the factory & appreciate the on going process. On this occasion Mr Mohammad Shahid Hussain, Chief Executive / MD was also present there where he addressed the visitors. This exercise will help promoting General brand in the vicinity of Hyderabad and its adjacent areas.

GTR COMMEMORATE 50 YEARS IN PAKISTAN

General Tyre Pakistan (GTR) celebrated its 50 years existence in Pakistan on October 26, 2013 at Hotel Pearl Continental Karachi. Some 500 respectable & distinguished guests of senior level from Original Equipments, Banks, Financial institutions, Insurance, Vendors / Suppliers & Dealers of replacement market from all over Pakistan were invited. Besides this, retired employees of senior level alongwith the present employees were also present to grace the occasion. Honorable Chairman, Mr Ali Kuli Khan Khattak & Mohammad Shahid Hussain Chief Executive / MD addressed the audience. Chairman in his speech talked about the problems / challenges being faced by the tyre industry. Mr Shahid also gave an impressive presentation about GTR past & present. In his speech he, thanked all its equity partners including Continental, Pak Kuwait Investment Company & National Investment Trust. In order to memorize 50 years, an exclusive performance was also arranged & each decade was marked with some hit songs of that particular decade. The execution was brilliant and the audience cherished the idea followed by the dinner. Amjad Sabri qawal & its team also felt their presence and their heart touching performance was very well applauded by the audience.

General Tyre participated in the recently held MARCON 2014 as one of the co-sponsors. The event was held on March 10 & 11, 2014 at PC Hotel, Lahore. Some 400 guest have participated the event where they witnessed distinguished & renowned speakers from Pakistan, India & Sri Lanka.

Warranty

The General Tyre & Rubber Company of Pakistan Limited gives an undertaking that every tyre manufactured by the Company bearing its name, serial number and logo is brand new and warranted to be free from defect in workmanship and material.

If a tyre on examination is found to be having some manufacturing defect, the Company will either repair it free of cost or make reasonable allowance on pro-rata basis on the purchase of a new tyre. This allowance will be based on the actual wear and balance left of a tyre. The decision of the Company regarding any claim of a tyre will be final and non-negotiable.

Any dispute with regards to warranty claim shall be settled of the Company’s registered office and factory in Karachi and only the Courts in Karachi shall have the jurisdiction in case of any legal disputes.

Corporate Social Responsibility

The General Tyre & Rubber Company of Pakistan has the culture and history of undertaking social and philanthropic activities

The Company regularly pays to Wakf-e-Kuli Khan Trust, a trust engaged in spreading of education in the under privileged class. During the current year the Company has provided for Rs. 17.89 million as donation to Wakf-e-Kuli Khan. Additionally, during the year, the Company also paid donations to The Citizens Foundation and certain other charitable organizations.

CONTRIBUTION TO NATIONAL EXCHEQUER

During the year, the Company contributed Rs. 3,214.99 million towards national exchequer by way of custom duties, income tax, sales tax and other modes.

Certifications

ISO 45001-2018

We have been awarded ISO certifications ISO 45001-2018 Occupational Health & Safety Management System previously it was 18001-2007. It is to be noted that GTR has been enlisted among few limited companies in Pakistan who achieved this certification.

ISO 14001-2004

General Tyre has been awarded ISO 14001-2004 for maintaining its Environmental Management System as per the standards set by the authority (NQA Pakistan).

ISO 18001-2007

GTR has been awarded ISO 18001-2007 for maintaining an Occupational Health & Safety Management System (OHSAS) as per the standards set by the authority (NQA Pakistan).

The Pakistan Standards and Quality Control Authority (PSQCA), as National Standard Body of Pakistan under the administrative control of Ministry Of Science & Technology, has awarded the license / certification to The General Tyre & Rubber Company of Pakistan Limited for conformance of the standards of motorcycle tyre manufacturing i.e. PS : ISO 4249-1.
